LS V-8 Engine Rebuilding

General Motors LS V-8 Small Block Engine Rebuilding

History of LS Series V-8 Small Block Engine

The LS small block V-8 engine was introduced by General Motors (GM) in 1995 and after multiple generations remains one of the main V-8 engines used in GM rear wheel drive cars and trucks today.

A performance version, LS1, was first used in the 1997 Chevy Corvette and featured an all-aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners and continued to be used in Corvette’s through the LS9 version in 2013.

Former National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) drag racing record holder and GM engineer Ed Koerner has been given much credit for his role in the development of the Gen III LS1 V-8. Ed Koerner’s racing background has added to the enthusiasm for the LS series small block V-8 engines over time.

Naturally, current National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nitro Funny Car driver Tim Wilkerson and his team at Capital City Machine Shop located in Springfield, Illinois have developed an expertise in rebuilding and restoring all LS Series V-8 small block engines.
